Ok, u guys helped me out b4, but now I have more problems.
Right after a scan, Ad-Aware crashes.
It detected 86000 threats (no exaggeration) on the computer.
I have at least 2 instances of every program on the computer, and I’m prettty sure some of them are worms.
So here’s wat I need help on:
How to delete all that detected malware from my computer
How to identify which programs are malware from crucial programs.
Troubleshooting Ad-Aware
Any other tips on cleaning up my computer.
Thanks!
I have Windows XP
Norton and Ad-Aware as defences.
Should I get AVG?
I don’t have spyware popups or wandering mouse. (yet) Just a lot of suspicious software and lag.

i would suggest reinstalling Windows by putting in your windows cd and restarting your computer. it will be very difficult to get rid of all the virus / worms
Are you using the latest version Ad-Aware 2007? If not try that along with Spybot Search and Destroy. It sounds like you do not have a firewall in place. Try going to download. com and get a free one along with anti-virus software. I also use Spyware Blaster Which is available at download. com. Good luck Edited after your additional comments: AVG would not hurt, but you will need to uninstall Norton’s. Reinstalling XP is not hard, but it will be time consuming to download all those XP updates.
I would not even bother cleaning up a machine that highly infected. . . . . . Just format it and reinstall it. You and the machine will be much happier.
With that many infections you really should reload windows xp, it will take less time to do that to be honest with you.
Wow, with that many viruses I would just reinstall Windows and reset your hard drive to clear out all of the viruses.
WOW thats insane. . . You got pwned spyware. Easiest thing to do is a clean install. Burn your documents or anything of value to a data disc. Its not easy trying to remove spyware when its embedded like that. You have to remove infected files scan alittle stop then rescan again. Will take along time but it will shave away some of the problems. Get AVG Free Edition for antivirus protection and get ride of Nortan. AddedIf your experiencing was. You might want to invest in adding some more memory.
There is no substitute for a good anti-virus software. You should install Norton or Mcafee BEFORE deleting anything. Rule: NEVER connect to the Internet without anti-virus! EVER. Ad-Aware is NOT anti-virus! In most cases prevention is the best medicine. Install the A-V then run a full system scan. If this does not resolve the issue, the Ad-Aware will not help you. Good luck,
Wow. In my experience, If your system is infected that, chances are you will not remove all of it without crashing the system A lot of spyware will integrate themselves deeply into the Sun OS that removing them will corrupt the OS. Best procedures if you really want to tackle this. . . Step 1: Be ruthless. Go straight to Add / Remove programs and remove anything and everything you do not recognize. Always use their uninstallers if they were nice enough to give you one. If you remove something you use by accident, you can always re-install it, best to be safe. Step 2: Run every anti-spyware program you can find. No one single anti-spyware program will get rid of everything. Here are some very good ones. . . http://www. microsoft. com / athome / security / spyware / software / default. mspxhttp: / / www. lavasoftusa. com / products ad_aware_free. phphttp: / / www. safer-networking. org / en / download / index. html http: / / www. ewido. net / en / Run each one several times. Run them in safe mode also. Use those programs to remove everything they pick up If you do not have one, run a virus scan. You can run a free online scan here. . . http://housecall. TrendMicro. com / If it still does not get rid of everything you may have to remove them by hand. You can find everything that did not come with Windows by running stock Hijack This. . . http://www.
