It sounds to me like you bought yourself what is known as a rogue removal program. These are made to look like real programs, but they scan, find results that do not exist, and then scare you with the results Until you give up your credit card number. My suggestion is remove it ASAP and use Ad-Aware 2007th It’s free, and NOT a ripoff.
yep, like a rogue spyware program soudns. (Ie, a program that pretends to be an anti virus / spyware tool but is in reality just trying to squeeze money out of unsuspecting people. Usually the rogue program is part of the infection itself.) 1) Download and run SmitFraudFix here http:/ / siri. geekstogo. com / SmitFraudFix. PHP2) Turn off system restore (go to control panel -> system -> click the System Restore tab and tick ‘turn off system restore for all hard drives). 3) Download AVG AntiVirus http://free. grisoft. com/doc/2/4) Install the two programs. 5) Then reboot your pc into safe mode (keep tapping F8 while starting up, then select ‘safe mode’ when the list comes up). 6) Run SmitFraudFix and let it remove anything it finds. Next run AVG anti-virus and let that remove everything it finds as well. Hopefully the rogue spyware remover should be gone now. If the pop-ups continue, that means your pc is still infected. Do not click on them, just ingnore them and edit your post to let me know (the pop-ups that you get are actually part of the infection, it is a trojan horse Which pretends to be a virus warning. For more info just google ‘Smitfraud’). You should then run Kaspersky’s online scan to make sure that the virus is gone even if the pop-ups have stopped. http://www. gpohotel. com. au / gallery. YOU ARE SURE THAT YOUR shtmlONCE PC IS SAFE, turn System Restore back on and follow these rules: 1) First of all, always keep your Windows up to date. Use the windows update site website: http://windowsupdate. microsoft. com. . . or turn on automatic updates (open control panel, go to ‘automatic updates’ and make sure it is set to automatic and every day) Note that windows update will only work if you have a legal / genuine copy of windows, in other words if you paid for it at a shop. 2) Use “Firefox” http://www. mozilla. com / en-US / instead of Internet Explorer, then install the following extensions: search for them at: https: / / addons. mozilla. org / en-us / firefox. . . – “NoScript” (once installed, allow only script when the site that is asking to run script matches the website you are viewing at that moment and only if you trust that website In other words, if you are browsing www yahoo… com and get a request to run a script originating from www. adserver. com, do not allow it. Noscript remembers the choices you make, so that you do not have to allow a website that you trust over and over again each time .. This adds a strong level of protection to your pc online Give it a try, and keep using it if you feel comfortable doing so) -. “Cookie Safe” (use it the same way as NoScript, only allow cookies from the site you are viewing, and only if you trust that site) 3) Then install McAfee SiteAdvisor http://www. SiteAdvisor. com It puts a little green tick next to safe sites in your google / yahoo search results and a red cross next to bad / unsafe sites Which host viruses and spyware (do not go to the red ones). This will stop a lot of the bad stuff because you will not even go to the websites that spread infected files! Site Advisor so helps you decide Whether to allow a certain website to run scripts (if you are using Noscript), if the site is marked as safe (green) then you can allow. . Okay, that’s taken care of PREVENTION. Now to clean up other existing crap: Turn off system restore again (go to control panel -> system -> click the System Restore tab and tick ‘turn off system restore for all hard drives). Then reboot. (Only enable system restore again once you have cleaned your pc, the reason is that spyware and viruses ‘hide’ in there and restore themselves). Note that I am assuming you run Windows XP, other versions do not have system restore (not sure about vista). Install the free AVG anti virus and run a complete scan (Preferably in safe mode). (You may not need to do that if you have just done it) You can then install AVG AntiSpyware http://free. grisoft. com / doc / download-fre. . . but i would only recommend this if you have a computer Relatively fast (around 1 GB of RAM and at least around first 5 GHz processor), because it runs in the background and picks up new spyware as soon as they are installed, so it may slow you down a little if your pc is old. To clean your computer from other stuff (spyware, advertising), use ‘ad-aware’ http://www. download. com/ad-aware-2007-fr. . . and ‘spybot s & d’ http://www. safer-networking. org /. . . Run ad-aware and Spybot about once a week / fortnight, Depending on how much stuff they keep finding. (Wherein the run adaware in safe mode, the reason for this is that in safe mode windows loads only the essential stuff and it is more likely that crap can be successfully removed because it is not currently running). I know it sounds like a lot, but it should not take much longer than about an hour to do all this, and your pc will be much safer and afterwards it will be much less likely that you’l have to go through all this again. Feel free to email me if you have any problems or want me to explain anything in more detail. EDIT: And the last answer is right, you should dispute the charge on your credit card bill (that is, if you paid by credit card), it is illegal what these scumbags are doing so they do not deserve a cent for it. . .
Spyware can make your system run noticeably slower than it did before. A search toolbar or other browser toolbar appears even though you did not request or install it. Your attempts to remove it fail, or it comes back after removal. You get pop-up advertisements when your browser is not running or when your system is not even connected to the Internet. When you start your browser, the home page has changed to something undesirable. You change it back manually, but before long you find that it has changed back again. SuperAntiSpyware (free) http://www. SUPERAntiSpyware. com /. . . This program includes ‘homepage hijack protection’ that stops your homepage being changed without your permission. Spybot S & D (free) http://www. safer-networking. org / Ad-Aware SE Personal (free) http://www. SnapFiles. com / reviews / Ad-Aware adaware. html
You can change your homepage by yourself. Open IE go to: Tools-Internet Options-General-home-type in the homepage you want, then click: Current then-Apply-OK it, or click Default for MSN. (Once your homepage is gone usually you have to reset it manually.) If the spyware on your PC’s still you may need to download a special cleaner. Not all malware cleaners can clean everything. Search the exact name of the spyware, or go to the 1st company of your cleaner to see what they say.
OUCH. Try to get your money back. Dispute the charge on your credit card bill. Stick with the basics like Spybot Search and Destroy. http://www. download. com/3000-2092-10039884. html
