ok…i have had it to the technician and they cleaned it up and removed spy ware.
I have been running anti spware…EVERY DAY.
It is STILL SLOW>
It takes 5 seconds from when I hit the page back key for the computer
to obey. Is this slow or what??
(yes i have timed it)
I also have a DSL connection…that is running at over 400 kilbytes
or whatever.
So what do I do ?

Sounds like an internet problem and not a hardware problem. Check your connection and try different websites. If one website is giving you a problem, its server-side, and not your fault. If all the web pages are slow check your connection. If other applications are slow (like word) I would continue to check for viruses, do a disk cleanup and defrag your hardrive. (Start> All Programs> Accesories> System Tools> Disk Defrag or Disk Cleanup. Good LuckAlternatively you could buy more RAM.
To speed up your computer and free up space and memory for free: Go to the Start Menu> RunType in “appwiz cpl.” Uninstall whatever you do not need. Next, go to Start> Run and type in “msconfig”. Go to the Startup tab and uncheck everything you do not want to startup. If you want, you can uncheck everything, and your anti-virus will still restart itself when you log on. Now go to My Computer> Hard Drive> Documents and Settings> [USER NAME]> Local Settings> and delete everything inside the Temp Folder. (This is a hidden folder so you will need to have “show hidden files and folders” checked in Folder Options) All the files in this folder are just temporary files that your Internet stored for certain websites. Next, you should install CCleaner, it will get rid of a lot of temporary files on your computer. It also has a registry repair system, Which is easily the best free one available on the Internet: http://www. ccleaner. com / download another option is to try defragmenting your computer. Go to the Start Menu and go to All ProgramsGo to Accessories and System Tools. Choose Disk Defragmenter and when it loads click defragment. Next, go to Device Manger (Start> right click My Computer> Properties> Hardware Tab> Device Manager) and expand all listings. Now right click and update all drivers. Another thing I would say is to compress your files if you already have not. Open My Computer and right click on your hard drive Check the Compress Drive button and let it do its thing. Finally, make sure your Hard Drive does not have any bad sectors. Go to My Computer> Right Click Hard Drive> Properties> Tools Tab> Check Now> Check both boxes and Start. It will ask you to reboot, then reboot. This will clear out any bad sectors on your Hard Drive. These are short-term solutions however. The easiest way is to just upgrade the RAM on your system, but at least the ways above are free. Good Luck =]

The reason the computer gets slow is due to the registry files becoming corrupted, or messed up, in simple terms. These files tell the computer system or laptop how to operate the software installed on the If any of these files get messed up, the computer is not sure what to do and this will really slow down the computer. The other scenario is where you download other software, screensavers, pictures, videos, or even music, and this will somehow change the settings on a registry file. When this happens, the original program that needs that file now has the wrong instructions in it. So, it will cause the computer to run slow, or in a worse case, crash.
