Out of nowhere, a little box popped up from the program bar at the bottom of my computer saying that the security system on my computer has detected a spyware infection. I already have Spybot Search and Destroy on my computer and I have it running and scanning for problems right now. I also have Webroot Spy Sweeper running, but the box keeps popping up.
I’m really worried about losing information or the virus messing with my privet information and passwords on the computer, and I want to make sure I’m doing all that I can to get rid of the infection. So, is there anything else I can do? Is there a better downloadable program that I can get? Or is what I have now the best that I can do without having to buy something? Is there anything that’ll work faster?
I appreciate all who take the time to answer. Thank you so much.

There are a few free programs, but they’re always hard to find. Most programs just give you a free day limited trial. But here are two programs I use, and I love them both. My computer’s been clean for awhile now. I use ZoneAlarm firewall, and Avast! Anti-virus. Both programs offer a free basic unlimited service, and give you the option of upgrading. But even with the free service, they Actively protect and catch spyware and viruses. And, if you’re worried about malware, try Malwarebyte’s Anti-Malware. It’s a malware scanner. Malware is another kind of spyware. But you’ve got yourself some good programs, the problem is, they do not stay on Actively, Actively and scan your computer. You have to manually scan. Hope this helps.
Norton has the best reputation in my opinion. They protect against everything. I think McAfee would come in second. I use Cox as my ISP and they use McAfee for their customers.
Two programs i use when i think my computer is infected is Spybot Search and Destroy and Ad-Aware. sometimes Spybot Search and Destroy does not get the job done ad-aware but goes more in-depth, if you set the settings right
Try using AVG, and if you want maximum protection, you can buy Norton or McAfee. Do not install too many anti-spyware software (2 is already too much), that’s harmful to your computer.
Let me give u answerWww short and sweet. avira. Combest free antivirus and antispyware out there and really easy to use and very light on the ststem.
I am a computer forensics specialist for the federal government. Here is the bad news (and it is all bad). There are no AV programs that are any good. Why would I say that. First, by definition, AV programs are reactive, ie only catch the really bad actors AFTER they have been identified. It is somewhat analogous to biomedical research on viruses – first you have to identify them, and only then can you find a “cure”. Most active viruses been identified (which is almost a meaningless term) have not even. Having said that, the only really secure way to keep your “stuff” to encrypt your data is safe (I use PGP software) and then anyone can “hack” your computer, but the information they get will be useless. Additionally, keep all your really private stuff, financials, etc.
love letters on a computer that (1) never gets on the Internet (2) keep your stuff encrypted so that even if someone steals your compture, the data will be useless (even the U.S. government can not decrypt the info). I am not sure that is the answer you really wanted to hear, but it is fairly accurate. And do go check out PGP software on the Internet. It has great “white papers” on security, etc. Anti-spyware/virus/keylogger/ghost programs only work at the Barest minimum of protection. Hope I helped.
If you are paying, the absolute best is Bitdefender.
Most of these problems occur when you have programs installed FREE and think you are protected. I have used Norton products for years and have only had the occasional issue with any virus or Trojan. Most are cleaned by automatic deletion. Popups are stopped by a popup stopper (www. panic hardware. Com) Too many programs cause conflicts. Keep up to date with Windows Update and Firewall for your OS.
