Internet connection problem.?

My laptop recently will not allow me to connect to the internet. I can connect fine with desktop (I am on now). My laptop shows good connection and I have done any/all troubleshooting to no avail. I found that I could log on using safe mode with networking which worked for about half a day. Now, I find that no longer works either. I have done anti virus scans (nothing found) and have tried system restore (will not allow date before problem, numerous tries). There is no password protection and laptop has ALWAYS detected automatically (checked that also). This just started happening out of the blue. One point I might make also is that recently I ran anti malware and it quarantined something saying rootkit in HKey registry which I then deleted. ( I thought about restoring the registry buth I really don’t have that much experience to mess with that, or even if it would work). Then, I noticed I could no longer log on. I have tried to log on with no add-ons(did not work) I have spent days trying everything numerous times and do not have a clue why this cannot be fixed. Once again, laptop has connection and signal is strong and I can log on with desktop no problem. Recent responses have said to run anti-virus again, but this has not worked. Pleas help. Thank you. Happy New Year.

Internet explorer won’t connect in my office but have a signal and full bars?

I recently ran malawares anti malware and it found some viruses and i had them deleted through the software. But now since then I cannot get onto the internet on my desktop in my office building. All the other guys in the office who run off the same server can get onto the internet but i constantly have an error saying that i cannot connect to the in internet and the website is unavailable. I know the internet on my computer works because i can still send and receive email via my microsoft outlook email. Why can’t i connect to the internet on my laptop?

ok last night my firewall was turned off for a short amount of time but i forgot to turn it back on and what do ya know… 38 virus infections in less than 2 seconds. malware, spyware, worms, trojans, everything. so i turned off my wifi and my laptop and restored it its original state so i could clear out all the infected files and crap cause it was crashing my computer and disabled the rest of my virus protection and all. now my laptops just like it was when i first turned it on icon smile Why cant i connect to the internet on my laptop? except this time i cant connect to the internet… during my computer setup i did not connect instantly but clicked the set-up later option. but either way i should still be able to connect right? so it was really irritating me i tried rebooting, turning wifi off and on again, troubleshooting didnt work either (it said the problem was fixed when it clearly wasnt), and i also plugged the router into my laptop but still it just wouldnt connect. i read about resetting the drivers or whatever but im not sure what that means… im usually pretty good with computers but im at a loss when it comes to connections. please help me i just want my lap toppy back!!!
ok so more details-

its an hp pavilion entertainment pc

i usually use avg anti-virus but as i said i disabled it. but when i tried to turn it back on it wouldnt run thanx to those stupid viruses >:[

because my laptop was going psychotic after all the infections i did the manual restore that actually wipes out all of your files (i have everything i needed from my docs on a flash drive in case i did ever have to restore it to its original state). when you turn it on and press escape and go to the start menu and all that stuff. so i did run the hp analysis and all. a friend helped me and i was so tired i dont really remember much of the process but i just know there was on option of restoring the pc to its original state. so no virus remover just restored.

Mysterious Internet Connection Problem…?

Last week, something strange occurred. One morning I woke up, updated my computer, checked email and IM as usual, and took off for the day. I came back home later that night, and noticed that Mozilla Firefox wasn’t connecting to the internet. So I tried my other web browsers; Internet Explorer, Apple Safari; Google Chrome, and Opera. To my disbelief, it seemed that IE, Firefox, and Safari just stopped working. Chrome and Opera work just fine.

Shortly after discovery, ran multiple anti-malware and antivirus programs with thorough scans, and found nothing. I then proceeded to utilize the “Diagnose Connection Problems” tool in IE, but that was practically useless, as it diagnosed my PC as having an unplugged cable. The icon in my system tray even indicates that the status of my Local Area Connection is “Connected” and NOT Local Only

- Can’t use system restore, not even in safe mode, as none of my restore points work

- I power-cycled (reset) my modem and my router several times

- I right clicked on the system tray icon to “Repair” the connection

- I made an attempt to make a change to every single LAN/Broadband connection setting within IE itself (except Dial-up settings, as I don’t use Dial-up, and those settings were fine anyway)

- I went through the Microsoft Windows Troubleshooting Guide, thoroughly

- Ran the Internet Connection Wizard several different times with attempts at configurations with different settings

- Disabled Firewall

- Removed Antivirus Programs

- Reset IE to default settings

- Uninstalled IE 8 and 7, checked IE 6 after removing XP SP2 & SP3, but this had no effect

- Removed all recent Windows Updates

- Reinstalled XP Service Packs 2 and 3, and also IE 8

- I cleared all browsing history, cookies, cache, temp files & other miscellaneous data stored by each web browser

*I’m aware that even if you’re not an IE user, the configuration settings within the program are vital to many other programs on your computer, and the overall health of your operating system.*

NONE OF THESE ATTEMPTS WORKED!!!

So I’m lost, and I don’t know what to do. I can’t check my email on Outlook (these settings are fine, by the way), I can’t use certain installers for certain programs as some of them require open internet connection, but don’t connect, I can’t use Windows Update, and more importantly, I can’t update my antimalware/antivirus software definitions.

There are only a handful of certain programs that will connect to the internet, but not that many; for example, Windows Live Messenger will connect, but Yahoo Messenger won’t, some online fullscreen computer games work/connect, some don’t. It’s quite frustrating really. I’ve even considered reinstalling Windows, but I can’t risk losing some of my work at the moment, as I currently have no method of backing it up. I thought about calling Microsoft, but really, who wants to deal with “them?”

What could be the issue…? And what can I do to fix this…?
-SPECS-

Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition (32bit)
Connected via Ethernet -to- Cable Modem @ 100mbps (normal data transfer speed from modem to computer [24mbps internet/download speed])
There are NO proxies involved

-CONNECTION ORDER-

-NOTE-
It should also be known that I have a separate [laptop] computer that runs just fine with all internet enabled programs.

Sorry for the large, bulky post. I will repost this question later if I can’t get prompt solutions by the end of the day, so please understand.

Thank You.
No, I haven’t reinstalled the Network Driver, but I didn’t think to do so, since I have other programs that are still working. However, I will give that a try later today.

But hypothetically, let’s say that doesn’t work…. What else should I do then?
I just tried uninstalling and reinstalling my network drivers, but to no avail.

Now what do I do…?

Why wont my computer run programs that require an internet connection?

My computer has been acting weird lately. I use the Zune marketplace and Playon for my PS3 and whenever I try to sign in or use the programs they say that they cannot connect to the server or the bandwidth is low even though I’m getting 3mps. I’ve tried all of the troubleshooting that various tech support people have walked me through like allowing the programs on my AVG and even getting rid of it completely but no luck. I can use the internet just fine and have run all the virus, spyware, and malware programs I have and like normal everything comes out clean. My computer did do something weird the other day though, it wouldn’t get on the internet but then I got rid of my proxy and it was fine again but my programs still don’t work. I’ve also called my ISP and there’s nothing wrong with the line but whenever I use AT&T’s self support tool it says that there is a problem with my connection even though it doesn’t show it on their end. It also says that my line state, DSL state, and Ethernet status is down whatever that means. I am really bad with computers and would appreciate any help y’all can give,

Thanks!
