That pop-up IS spyware itself. You need to use a good spyware remover to get rid of it. Try Spybot Search and Destroy or any of the freeware programs here: http://www. freeware files. com /
Well, they are correct. They are using the spyware to give you the pop-up. Just right click on the tab in the taskbar and select close. Then run a spyware program.

There are a number of spyware programs like adaware that can remove some of these. However, I have been hit with one like you describe that is much trickier. It runs processes that automatically restart if you end them, therefore you can not delete the files because they are in use. I had one just the other day in fact, but since I had already had a go round with a one similiar I knew what to do and it worked well. This is what I did it may help you it may not. This one that I had then hijacks your browser’s home page. First if you catch it right away (ie the same day) go into your system32 folder date and sort by. All the files for the current day were involved (or they were harmless to remove) they were a couple. exe and some. tbl (I think it was. tbl). I restarted in safe mode, went back into that System32 folder and deleted all the files dated on that day. Wrinting down the names of the. exe files. Then I went into regedit and search for all of the. exe files I had deleted. I removed anything that contained them 2 entries or third Rebooted in normal mode and everything was just peachy.
